We source and deliver commodities where and when needed. Our integrated global network allows us to trade around continents. We have developed and still improve on local presence especially in emerging economies.
This flexibility is of strategic benefits especially in areas with stringent laws and community relationship challenges. The biggest challenge is to source products. And this can only be encouraged with good understanding and productive relationships in emerging markets.
Investment & Outreach
Emperos aims to secure equity stakes in some medium capacity refineries in Romania and invest in future developments of refineries in Africa. Already, we are in talks with licensees who have acquired rights to build refineries in Nigeria and Ghana and seek foreign direct investments.
Our aim is to have direct access to refined products and be able to personally refine Crude Oil sourced locally. This will reduce turn-around-time and freight cost.
In 2009, we sold on average around 1 million bbls of crude oil per day, whereas in 2010 the number increased to 1.26 million bbls per day. REBCO originating from Russia represents less than 40% of our flows. We search for more trading opportunities mainly in Africa, the Middle East and the Americas, and the portion of volumes originating from those areas increases year by year.
Gunvor benefits from the flexibility of having access to more than 10 million barrels storage capacity located in different key areas such as the Caribbean, North West Europe, the Mediterranean and the Far East. Our strategic storage tank farm in Central America complemented with our throughput capacity to pump barrels from the Atlantic to the Pacific gives us flexibility not only to take advantage of arbitrage opportunities, but also provides logistical optionality to place different crude grades into various markets. It also enhances partnerships for local refiners and freight owners.
